With SIA, my favorite memory was volunteering for Meals on Wheels in which we delivered meals to the homeless on Thanksgiving Day. However, every volunteer opportunity is such a rewarding experience that I can never get enough of. Besides volunteering, I love dogs, going to the beach, hanging out with my family, and traveling to new places! With my degree, I hope to one day become a CPA for an organization dedicated to helping out those in need.

Eric Arauza, Co-Membership Chair

Email: earauza@ucsc.edu
Year: 3rd year
Declared Major: Molecular, Cell, and Developmental Biology
About Eric: Hello everyone! My name is Eric Arauza and I am a third year Molecular, Cell, and Developmental Biology major. I am currently a premed student looking forward to pursue a career in health. I have been in Rotaract since my first year and I was previously in Interact during high school. Growing up, I always knew I had a passion for service but I did not know where or how to serve my community. Interact truly opened doors and built bridges that I had so long been waiting for. Rotaract has solidified these bridges that are constantly helping me grow professionally and personally. Our club truly embodies service above self and I could not be any more proud about that.   I am certain that my college experience would not be the same without my Rotaract family and my new community at Santa Cruz.

Denise Long, Co-Fundraising Chair

Email: dejlong@ucsc.edu
Year: 3rd year
Declared Major: Molecular, Cell, and Developmental Biology
About Denise: I grew up in the East Bay in the city of Pleasanton and was in Key Club in high school. I never heard of Rotaract before coming to UCSC and decided to attend a meeting in my freshman year. Since then, Rotaract has become such an important part of my life that has provided me with amazing volunteer opportunities, taught me invaluable professional skills, and introduced me to so many of my friends. When I’m not busy with studying or Rotaract, I like to hike, go to the beach, and eat. I’m excited to serve the club this year as your co-fundrasing chair!

Cori Calabi, Co-Fundraising Chair

Email: ccalabi@ucsc.edu

Year: 4th year

Declared Major: Human Biology
Declared Minor: Computer Science
About Cori: I’m from Napa Valley and I discovered Rotary International while in high school there. I was in Interact for three years, and so was very excited to find a Rotaract club at UC Santa Cruz. I joined this club at the start of my freshman year and can’t imagine what my life in Santa Cruz would be like without all the wonderful people I’ve met and all the service events and socials I’ve attended. When I’m not at Rotaract meetings and events, I am eating avocados, swimming, watching 90s shows on Netflix, studying, and going on adventures! I am greatly looking forward to my fourth (and sadly last) year of being involved in Santa Cruz Rotaract and to helping our club reach its goals!

Christiana Karmadilas, Service Chair

Email: ckardami@ucsc.edu
Year: 3rd year
Declared Major: Neuroscience

About Christiana: Growing up, volunteering was always a constant. It was a way of giving back to the community and making a difference in the lives of the people who needed it most. In this way, service allows people from all walks of life to come together and learn from each other. When I first came to UCSC, I knew that I wanted to keep serving and learn more about what I could do in my new community but I didn’t know where to start. The first time I went to Rotaract, they welcomed me and every other new member with open arms. Once there I found myself in an amazing group of people dedicated to making a difference and ensuring that every person they met felt included and secure. As Service Chair I hope to continue this tradition and make sure that every member, new and old, feels like their voice is being heard. On another note I’m all about tea, tiny things, baking, and fuzzy blankets.

Veenna San Felipe, Outreach Co-Chair

huong

Email: vsanfeli@ucsc.edu
Year: 2nd Year
Proposed Major: Computer Science
About Veenna: Growing up as a pastor’s kid, I was always involved with my church, which is where I got my first start in community service. However, my passion to help others didn’t fully develop until high school when I joined Interact. Everything I got out of Interact-friendships, network connections, leadership experience, (and more!)-encouraged me to get further involved by becoming an officer. When I came to UCSC, I continued a similar path through Rotaract and now hold the position of Co-Outreach Chair. The motto “Service Above Self” has and always will resonate with me and as one of this year’s officers, I hope to share what I’ve learned throughout my experience, while inspiring others to give back to their own communities.

Beckie Phanh, Outreach Co-Chair

Emailbphanh@ucsc.edu
Year: 2nd year
Proposed Major: Psychology
About Beckie: In High School Interact was where I met some of the funniest and friendliest people. This is what motivated me to continue being a part of Interact for all four years of my high school career. I fell in love with the idea of service above self; being able to give back to the community that has helped me prosper. Now I am second year in college and a part of Rotaract. I want to be able to give back to those students and share the lessons I have learned as well as continuing my path of service above self.

Stacey Shun, Professional Development

Emailsshun@ucsc.edu
Year: 3rd year
Declared Major: Business Management Economics
About Stacey: Walking into my first Rotaract meeting was an unforgettable experience. I remember walking directly up to the member with the biggest smile on his face and saying, “Hi! My name is Stacey. This is my first meeting and I don’t know anyone.” Within five minutes I learned and met who was the nicest, most outgoing, and outright just fun members in the club. It was their kindness and genuineness that drew me in and yet it was the life lessons I’d learned through volunteering with members, Rotarians, and those we were helping, that kept me coming back. Just as Rotaract has helped me develop my potential, I want to help members unveil and build upon theirs. This is why I’m excited to serve as the 2017-2018 professional development chair for Rotaract Club of Santa Cruz. Outside of Rotaract, you can catch me shopping, photo-shooting, hiking, eating brunch, and working out.

I’m grateful and proud to be a part of this inspirational organization!
