This school year, Rotaract Club of Santa Cruz County is happy to partner with Jacob's Heart for our local project. Jacob's Heart is a Watsonville based nonprofit that works with families facing a diagnosis of pediatric cancer. Their services include bilingual counseling, group therapy sessions, monetary assistance, assistance with transportation, and much more. Their mission is to provide children and teens diagnosed with cancer with strong, supportived families fully equipped to participate in their care, and to provide a safety net for the unique needs of every child and family.
This year, Rotaract will offer two mentorship programs for members interested in professional development. The first is an enhanced Rotary Membership Program, which gives Rotaractors a chance to connect with Rotarians in their potential career field. This mentorship offers work shadowing, networking, and valuable, experience-based advice. This year the Rotary Mentorship Program will feature mixers, which allow Rotarians and Rotaractors a chance to make connections organically, and find people who mesh profesionally and personally. The second program is Rotaract Connect, a brand new initiative which gives UC Santa Cruz students a chance to connect with older Rotaractors who have already made the transition from college to a career. This program is designed to give Rotaractors a sense on what to expect from and how best to prepare for postgrad careers and life in general. We are excited to start these programs and tap into all the knowledge available from the experienced, highly capable network of Rotaractors and Rotarians surrounding us.
On October 11, we will attend the Fall Leadership Conference, District 5170's biggest event of the year. Last year, this event served over 4,000 Interactors, teaching essential leadership skills and giving knowledge that will deepen their commitment to serve. At this event, Rotaract will assist with a service project, and represent Rotaract to thousands of Interactors who are likely to play a big role in our future. Rotaractors will gather at 7 am, bright and early, so we can reach Independence High School in San Jose by 8:30 for a full day of volunteering.
