Surf City Aids Bike Ride 10.09.16

This annual event raises funds for the Santa Cruz AIDS Project and is a lot of fun for volunteers and cyclists.Thirteen Rotaract volunteers helped prepared snacks and distributed them to the riders as they stopped by. Coffee and celery with peanut butter seemed to be their favorite! We were right by the beach in Capitola and it was beautiful.

We also got to pet a lot of dogs! *Woof Woof*

Big West Conference 10.21.16-10.23.16

This year the 6th annual Big West Rotaract Conference took place at Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona. Rotaractors, Rotarians, and guest speakers attended for a weekend of leadership development and fun fellowship! Each year the conference hosts workshops in club, leadership, and personal development, along with inspirational speakers and fellowship for networking. The Big West Rotaract Conference is the largest annual Rotaract conference on the west coast of North America!

This year, we were very fortunate enough to send 8 Rotaract officers to attend Big West! This is the most people we were ever able send. We would like to give a huge thank you to the Rotary Club of Santa Cruz, Capitola-Aptos Rotary and Sunrise Rotary for sponsoring the trip for our officers! We truly appreciate the help and support!

Our officers attended workshops, met Rotaractors from around the world and attended ASU’s homecoming game! Barbara Feder attended as our guest speaker. She spoke about End Polio Now and her experiences with helping immunize children in Pakistan.

Evergreen Cemetery 10.22.16

October 2016

Denise Long:  2nd year with 8  hours of service!

Why did you join Rotaract?

I joined rotaract because I was in interact and key club in high school and wanted to continue volunteering in college.

What was a highlight in Rotaract? Could be a social, service event,
or a random moment in meeting!

My favorite rotaract social is probably the camping trip. It was a great bonding experience. I didn't feel very connected to the club as a 1st year but after getting to know other members during the trip I began to look forward to attending more rotaract events.

If you could choose a position, what would it be and why?

If I could choose a position it would be secretary because I enjoyed being key club secretary in high school.

Is there any advice you’d like to pass on to future members?

Don't be afraid to try something new by attending as many service events and socials as you can!

November 2016

joshFlashback to Fall Quarter! We would like to congratulate members who have reached our expectation and more!

Josh Pe: 4th year with +20 hours of service!

Why did you join Rotaract?

I joined Rotaract because I have a passion for service and, unlike many other community service organizations, everyone was super kind and down to earth.

What was a highlight in Rotaract? Could be a social, service event,
or a random moment in meeting!

My Rotaract highlight would definitely be when we volunteered in San Jose at FLC. It was cool amy seeing how much energy and spirit all the Interactors had!

If you could choose a position, what would it be and why?

I’d go for president, without a doubt. I feel like I can inspire members to share the same passion for service that I have.

Is there any advice you’d like to pass on to future members?

My advice for future members would be to join now! I regret not joining earlier because I would’ve definitely ran for president if I had another year.
